I particularly like how No Time To Die treated the villain as a backdrop, instead of being the usual "main character" with an agenda we need to know everything about. Yes, it is filled with nonsense, too, but nowhere near as cringy is the older ones. Personally I think the Craig era knocked it out of the park. I guess, that could be an argument for why the movies did evolve me into classic Bond story telling. While theres nothing inherently special about a 16610 Submariner, the significance lies in the fact that the Dalton Submariner marked the end of the Bond Rolex. So, thing's has to be adapted to work in a linear storyline. The "issue" with the Craig era is that it's completely linear. I don't know how we differentiate between "sticking to the source material" and making cheap throwbacks? Yes it did bring in a lot more of the Bond platitudes, but it is a Bond movie, so it should?
